A well-maintained flour mill runs efficiently for 15–20 years. A neglected one breaks down within 3–5 years. The good news: maintaining a Kapi Poonamdeep Diamond Stone flour mill is simple. Here is our complete maintenance checklist for commercial and home users.
Daily Checks (2 minutes)
- Clean the hopper and grinding chamber — remove grain debris after every session to prevent moisture build-up and rats
- Check for unusual sounds — a grinding or rattling noise indicates stone misalignment or a loose component; stop and inspect immediately
- Check belt tension — press the belt midway; it should deflect 1–1.5 cm. Too loose = slippage and wasted electricity. Too tight = bearing wear
- Check the output tube — ensure flour is flowing freely and not clogged
Weekly Checks
- Wipe down the exterior — flour dust settles on the motor cooling fins and can cause overheating if allowed to build up
- Inspect the belt — look for cracks, fraying, or glazed surfaces. Replace immediately if cracked
- Check motor mounts — bolts can loosen from vibration; tighten if needed
Monthly Maintenance
- Grease the bearings — apply food-safe grease (EP2 grade) via the grease nipples provided. Over-greasing is also harmful; 3–5 pumps of a grease gun is sufficient
- Check stone gap — use the pressure adjustment knob to ensure stones are set at your preferred fineness. A gap that is too tight accelerates wear; too loose gives coarse flour
- Inspect anchor bolts — the 4 bolts fixing the machine to the floor should be tight. Loose anchor bolts increase vibration dramatically
Every 6 Months
- Full bearing re-greasing — heavier application to fully displace old grease
- Motor capacitor check (single-phase only) — if the motor is slow to start or hums without turning, the start capacitor may need replacement (₹150–₹400 part)
- Belt replacement — belts typically last 6–12 months under commercial use. Budget for replacement
When to Call a Technician
- Stone produces black marks in flour — stone surfaces may be contaminated or cracked
- Flour is coming out warm/hot — stone gap too tight, or motor overloaded
- Motor overheats or trips the MCB repeatedly — check motor winding, capacitor, or voltage supply
- Excessive vibration after anchor tightening — check stone balance (bearing wear or chip in stone)
Diamond Stone Advantage: Zero Stone Dressing
Traditional emery stone mills require monthly or bi-monthly Taki (stone dressing) — a skilled job costing ₹500–₹1,500 each time plus 3–5 hours of downtime. Kapi's Diamond Stone eliminates this entirely. The stone maintains its sharpness for years, so this entire maintenance category simply does not apply to our machines.
