The motor is as important as the grinding stone. A wrong motor choice leads to poor performance, high electricity bills, frequent breakdowns, and machine damage. Here is everything you need to know about choosing the right motor for your atta chakki.
Single Phase vs Three Phase Motor
| Feature | Single Phase (220V) | Three Phase (415V) |
|---|---|---|
| Available at | Home, domestic supply | Commercial shop, factory |
| Machine size | 10" and 12" only | 14", 16", 18" |
| Max HP | Up to 3 HP practical | Up to 25+ HP |
| Running efficiency | Good for small loads | More efficient at higher loads |
HP Requirements by Machine Size
- 10-inch: 1.5 HP (minimum) — 2 HP recommended for continuous use
- 12-inch: 2 HP (minimum) — 3 HP for heavy grinding
- 14-inch: 3 HP (minimum) — 5 HP for continuous commercial use
- 16-inch: 5 HP (minimum) — 7.5 HP recommended
- 18-inch: 10 HP (minimum) — 12.5–15 HP for heavy industrial use
Copper Winding vs Aluminium Winding
Always choose copper winding motors. Aluminium winding motors are cheaper but:
- Run hotter (higher temperature = shorter lifespan)
- Less efficient (higher electricity consumption)
- Fail sooner under continuous commercial use
Kapi recommends 100% copper winding motors for all commercial installations. We only supply copper winding motors with our machines.
Should I Buy Motor With or Without the Machine?
If you already have a working motor that matches the HP requirement — buy machine only and save ₹3,000–₹15,000. If you are starting fresh, buying motor+machine together from us ensures correct belt pulley sizing and compatibility. WhatsApp us and we will advise based on your existing setup.
