Why UP is our largest volume state

Uttar Pradesh grows more wheat than any other state in India, and it also has the largest number of small village grinding units. In most of UP the chakki is not a retail shop at all, it is a custom grinding service. People bring their own wheat, you grind it, and you charge per kilo or keep a share. That business model needs a different machine than a city shop needs.

Custom grinding means unpredictable, heavy bursts. A farmer arrives with two quintals and wants it done now. That is why the 14 inch and 16 inch are the two sizes that sell most in UP. The 14 inch at 35 to 40 kg per hour runs on 3 HP single phase, which suits villages where three phase is not reliable. The 16 inch at 60 to 80 kg per hour needs three phase but pays for itself quickly in a busy grinding shed.

Western UP around Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur also grinds a fair amount of bajra and jowar, while the east around Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Azamgarh runs more on wheat and rice by-products. Many UP shops also grind chana for besan and mix jau or soya into atta on request, which is a good margin because it is a service packet flour cannot offer.

Power cuts are the practical constraint most UP customers raise. Nothing in a stone chakki is harmed by an interruption, but you should never restart under a full hopper. Clear the load, then start. If your supply is weak, size down rather than fitting an oversized motor onto a thin line.

The machine is supplied without motor. In UP that is genuinely useful, because motor prices and repair availability vary a lot district to district and you are better off buying from someone local who will service it.

Questions we get from Uttar Pradesh

I do custom grinding for the village, which size?

The 14 inch is the practical default for village custom grinding. If you regularly have people waiting, or you handle more than about 300 kg in a day, move to the 16 inch and arrange a three phase connection.

What if power goes while grinding?

Nothing gets damaged. Clear the grain out of the chamber before you restart, because starting against a full load strains the motor and the belt. This is normal practice, not a fault of the machine.

Can I charge per kilo with this machine and still make money?

That depends on your local rate and your electricity cost. Work it out on running hours rather than on the machine price. A 3 HP motor drawing near full load costs you a known amount per hour, and the 14 inch does 35 to 40 kg in that hour. Compare that against your per kilo rate.
