Importing a flour mill from India into Nepal is routine, but there are four things worth settling before you pay for anything, and most disappointments come from skipping one of them.
First, the motor. Our machines ship without a motor by design. For a Nepal buyer this is usually an advantage, because you can buy a motor that matches your local supply and get it serviced locally rather than shipping a heavy component across a border. Confirm your voltage and phase before you decide on a machine size.
Second, power. Where three phase is stable, the 16 inch at 60 to 80 kg per hour is the workhorse for a commercial mill. Where you are on single phase or the supply is uneven, do not go above the 14 inch at 35 to 40 kg per hour on 3 HP. Oversizing a machine against a weak supply causes more problems than a smaller machine ever will.
Third, customs. Most consignments cross at Birgunj, with Bhairahawa and Kakarbhitta also used depending on your district. We provide the commercial invoice and packing list. Nepali clearance and duty are handled by you or your clearing agent, and we are happy to speak to your agent directly if that is simpler.
Fourth, the grain. Terai mills run mostly on wheat and maize, while hill districts grind more millet, particularly kodo, and buckwheat. Small hard grains are the load that wears a stone fastest, and getting a stone properly cut outside the main towns is not easy in Nepal. That is a stronger argument for diamond stone here than it is in India.
