Who the 10 inch is actually for

The 10 inch is our smallest machine and it is honest about what it is: a household chakki. It grinds 10 to 15 kg per hour on a 1.5 HP single phase motor, which means a month of atta for a family of four or five is well under an hour of work, usually done once or twice a week.

People buy it for one of three reasons. They want flour that has not been sitting in a warehouse. They have a specific grain they cannot buy ready ground, such as bajra, ragi or a particular wheat variety. Or they want to control what goes into the atta, mixing in chana, soya or jau themselves.

It is not a shop machine and we will say so before you order. If you are selling atta over a counter, even a small one, start at the 12 inch and preferably the 14 inch. Running a 10 inch as a business machine means running it continuously, and it is not built for that duty cycle.

The machine comes without a motor. For the 10 inch you need 1.5 HP single phase, which is a common and inexpensive motor available in any electrical market. Buying locally is cheaper for you than paying freight on a motor from Mumbai, and it means the person who services it is nearby.

Physically, plan for roughly a 2.5 by 2.5 foot footprint plus room to stand and feed it, and a level surface. Cast iron body, diamond stone, no weekly taki.

Questions we get from 10 inch buyers

Is 10 to 15 kg per hour enough for a family?

Yes, comfortably. A family of five uses roughly 25 to 35 kg of atta a month, which is two to three hours of grinding spread across the month.

Can I use it for a small shop?

We do not recommend it. A shop needs continuous running and the 10 inch is built for intermittent household use. Start at the 12 inch, and the 14 inch if you are serious.

What motor do I need and is it included?

1.5 HP single phase, and no, the motor is not included. Buy it locally. It is cheaper than paying freight on it and you get local service.
